Instagram #2: Creative Outlet

This weekend was the Art Star Craft Bazaar at Penn's Landing and the Punk Rock Flea Market.  I went home mostly empty handed with the exception of a teensy weensy cheesesteak charm from Inedible Jewelry and some heavily discounted cupcakes at the flea market.

As for my weekly drawings and posts, I've fallen a bit off, haven't I.  It happens sometimes and you can't get down on yourself for something that's supposed to be fun.  Don't worry though.  I haven't started collecting cats or eating tubs of ice cream yet to reality show marathons (though I did manage to catch up on all five seasons of Mad Men in the last month or so.  Eek.) I've just been channeling my creative energy into other things.  And drinking.  Oh, the drinking.  (Mostly kidding, though not entirely.)

1, 2, & 3. Practice cheek art painting at work, 4. Snazzy little work station, 5 & 6. Paper flower bouquet and card for my mom on Mother's Day, 7. First Friday gallery walk: Space 1026, 8. Life Drawing at the Philly Sketch Club, 9. Horrible Adorables at Art Star Craft Bazaar

Music Video Monday: Björk's "It's Oh So Quiet"

I guess it's not always sunny in Philadelphia because oh boy, today is grey.
Here's some Björk to make your day a little sunnier.

MoCCA Fest 2012

Last weekend MoCCA (Museum of Comic and Cartoon) Fest 2012.  I've been going for the last few years.  I bought a few things, but mostly picked up business cards and free stuff.
A few highlights included:

Michelle Nunnelly print for sale on Etsy
RecsFx 90's illustration
Paul Swartz
  • Michelle Nunelly - An SVA student, I picked up her Ugly comic book.  My boyfriend always teases me that I like things with big heads and big eyes.  Her drawings are great.
  • Rory Smith (RecsFX) - I picked up his comic She Wasn't Like the Others, a wonderful little comic with beautiful illustrations.  He style reminds me a bit of Rob Guillory (Chew).
  • I really wanted to buy Paul Swartz's Meet the Monsters: The Quirks of Creatures A to Z  but ended up only being able to afford a few stickers
A couple bummers:
  • It's sad that the ladies of Pizza Island have disbanded so I didn't get to see any of their new work.
  • Also would have liked to see new work from Allan Norico.  I have a couple of his Things I've Seen At Shows books and was curious what he was up to this year.
It was also a little strange having to travel via Megabus instead of F train this year.  Honestly, I think the two hour commute soured my trip a little.  It put me in a bit of a funk.  It was still great though to see so many talented artists together having a good weekend.  Can't wait til MoCCA 2013.

Aaaaannnddd I'm running a tad late on my weekly drawing this week.  It was supposed to be finished today, but I'm not quite happy with the state it's in right now.  See the initial drawing below as proof that I'm not making this up. ;)

Happy Cinco de Mayo everyone! :)

Music Video Monday: King Khan & BBQ Show's "Waddlin' Around"

Although, King Khan & BBQ Show are no longer performing together, they did put out this awesome video when they were.  "Waddlin' Around" features a puppet version of the duo, burgers, monsters, and fake vomit, not to mention a catchy and fun song.  A combination after my own heart.  If this sounds like the thing for you, check it out here.

Street People: McConnell Street Man

Around the world, cities, towns, and small villages are filled with interesting personalities.  My hometown in Northeast Pennsylvania is no exception.  This man was seen walking his pit bull on a side street in the center of town.

Self Portrait 2010

For my 22nd birthday, me and my roommate at the time who coincidentally has the same birthday as me, threw a backyard birthday bash to celebrate.  A close friend of mine made us little birthday signs out of cardboard to wear and as a joke I put a blueberry carton on my head for a couple photos.  I reconstructed an oversize vintage dress to fit me and found a temporary tattoo that I stuck on my arm.  The party was a blast and the pictures from that night are some of my favorites.  I can't wait until July for the big 24.
